Team
Motul Suzuki's defending Australian Motocross Champion Matt Moss
continues to lead the 2014 MX Nationals following a second place finish
at Wonthaggi's third round of the season in Victoria on Sunday. Moss
tied for the victory overall with second in moto one and fourth in moto
two, but was credited second on countback due to the finishing order of
the final moto. However
in the championship standings Moss stretched his lead to 22 points
after claiming five bonus points in the Super Pole qualifying session,
where he slotted his Suzuki RM-Z450 onto the pole position. It
was another strong performance by the multiple-time Australian
champion, content with his overall position and satisfied to extend his
championship lead. "To
finish tied on points for the day is good, definitely not a bad
result," Moss reflected. "We weren't able to win any motos today and I
hadn't ridden in almost two weeks coming into this round, so it's a
bonus to increase my championship lead. "Like
always Team Motul Suzuki was great and the RM-Z450 for me is the bike
to be on. We will keep getting stronger from here and I'm enjoying the
challenge so far in 2014." Team
Motul Suzuki teammate Rhys Carter again displayed consistency beyond
his experience, the MX1 rookie charging to sixth overall with a 6-8
scorecard for the round. He now sits seventh in the standings after
three of 10 rounds. "I've
been really consistent, which is positive, but in the first race I
should have made the pass and been fifth," Carter commented. "In the
second moto I got a good start finally, but made a few mistakes and
tightened up. "I
couldn't put a charge on, kind of went backwards so that was
disappointing. In saying that, I know where I can and should be, so it's
a matter of working on my intencity and moving forward from here." The
MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will now take a
two-week break before resuming at Murray Bridge in South Australia on
Sunday, 18 May. For further information on Team Motul Suzuki visit www.suzukimotorcycles.com.au on the web; Like Suzuki Motorcycles Australia on Facebook; or follow @suzukiaustralia on Instagram.
